Sunderland vs Manchester United Predictions
Carrick continues to drive United forward
Manchester United secured Champions League football with last weekend’s 3-2 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford and the mood around the club has shifted sharply since Michael Carrick returned in January. The Red Devils have now won three matches in a row and 10 of their last 14 under the 44-year-old.
That run also includes a 2-0 victory over Sunderland in October’s reverse fixture. United have now won five of the last six meetings between these sides and three in succession, while only one of their previous 15 top-flight visits to the Stadium of Light has ended in defeat.
There is still a slight sense of unfinished business around Carrick’s interim spell, but another away win would only strengthen the growing case for a longer stay. Sunderland’s recent home record adds to that angle. Regis Le Bris’ side have lost four of their last five league games at the Stadium of Light and the latest setback was a heavy 5-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest.
The Black Cats have also struggled badly in front of goal during this stretch. Sunderland are the fourth-lowest scorers in the Premier League with 37 goals and they failed to score in recent home defeats against Liverpool, Brighton and Nottingham Forest.
United may not need a huge scoreline here, but the contrast between the sides over recent weeks is difficult to ignore. A bet on Manchester United appeals at 1.95.

Sesko finding his rhythm at Old Trafford
Benjamin Sesko has become a far more regular scoring threat since Michael Carrick returned to the dugout in January. The Slovenian has scored nine of his 11 Manchester United goals since the turn of the year and he arrives on Wearside after netting in back-to-back matches against Brentford and Liverpool.
One of Sesko’s earlier goals for the club also came against Sunderland in October’s 2-0 win at Old Trafford. Before January he had scored only twice for United, so the recent jump in output has been clear across the second half of the campaign.
There is also a strong minutes and role angle around the striker at the moment. Sesko remains central to United’s attacking play during this winning run and Sunderland’s recent defensive slide at home has left openings for opposition forwards. Even so, the market still offers a workable anytime price.
United have scored at least twice in each of their last three victories and Sesko could be the way to go at 2.40 to maintain his scoring streak.
