Hull City vs Manchester United Predictions
Hull’s home threat can test United’s defence
Manchester United conceded 50 goals across 38 Premier League matches last season, and both teams scored in 13 of their last 17 away league games. Their defensive record remains an obvious concern for the opening weekend.
Hull also have numbers of their own at home. The Tigers scored 11 goals in their final six home matches of the Championship regular season, giving the promoted side a useful attacking platform for their first Premier League fixture.
United will be without the injured Matthijs de Ligt, with Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire set to form the defensive line. The lack of pace in the central positions leaves further questions over a backline that was already conceding regularly last term.
Hull may have been some way short of the Championship’s leading performers, but Sergej Jakirovic’s side repeatedly defied expectations during their promotion campaign. With Hull’s home scoring return and United’s away BTTS frequency both relevant, I’m backing Both Teams To Score at 2.00.

United’s attacking quality points to a narrow win
Manchester United finished third in the Premier League last season, and their strongest area now appears to be further forward. Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo give Michael Carrick a front three capable of causing Hull serious problems.
The midfield has also been strengthened by the additions of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. Carrick still has pressure to handle after last season’s third-place finish followed Ruben Amorim’s difficult spell, while United had no deep cup or European runs to manage.
Hull have added Nobel Mendy, Konstantinos Tzolakis, Lucas Herrington and Jens Hjerto-Dahl to the promoted squad, although more may be required at Premier League level. United’s 50 goals conceded last season make a clean sheet difficult to assume, while Hull’s 11 goals across their final six regular-season home games support a scoreline with both sides contributing.
United’s attacking options still give them the edge in the result, and Manchester United 2-1 could be worth a look at 9.00.
