PSG face Aston Villa at Red Bull Arena Salzburg on 12 August 2026 at 10pm GMT+3 in the UEFA Super Cup, the traditional continental curtain-raiser.
PSG return after a second successive Champions League title, while Europa League holders Villa have endured a difficult summer with important departures. Both squads have welcomed players back gradually after the World Cup, so competitive evidence is limited, but PSG should still have enough to make their quality count over 90 minutes.
I’m backing PSG for the win and also have two player bets in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Emiliano Buendia.

PSG vs Aston Villa Predictions
PSG can make their strength count
PSG scored in 28 consecutive matches in all competitions after a 2024-25 campaign in which they won Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Champions League. Most of their first-team players are expected to be available in Salzburg.
Their previous Super Cup was much less straightforward. Tottenham, Europa League winners despite finishing just above the Premier League relegation zone, led PSG 2-0 after 48 minutes on neutral ground in Italy. PSG replied in the 85th and 94th minutes before taking Spurs to penalties in Udine.
Europa League winners have lifted the Super Cup in only one of the last 13 seasons. Unai Emery has won the Europa League five times, but he has never followed one of those successes with a Super Cup victory.
Villa also have more uncertainty around their squad. Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans have left, while John McGinn and Ollie Watkins, two of their leading scorers in last season’s Europa League, could miss out through injury. Club-record signing Johan Manzambi is unavailable with a knee problem.
With no competitive form and little recent data after the World Cup, keeping the match bet simple makes sense. PSG remain the strongest side on the Continent, and their 28-game scoring sequence is enough for me to back PSG to win at 1.75. The bet is also eligible for an early payout if they move two goals ahead.

Kvaratskhelia can make his fresh legs count
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had the summer away from World Cup duty because Georgia did not qualify, giving the PSG winger a different preparation from several team-mates. Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue could feature if match-fit, although the line-up may contain a few surprises after the intense summer schedule.
Kvaratskhelia scored 10 goals in last season’s Champions League. Only Kylian Mbappe with 15 and Harry Kane with 14 managed more.
His shooting numbers were just as notable. The Georgian recorded 50 attempts in 16 Champions League appearances, the third-highest total in the competition.
He also has a recent scoring memory against Villa, having found the net in the first leg of PSG’s 2024-25 Champions League quarter-final against them. With PSG priced just below evens for the match win and Kvaratskhelia available at a bigger number, I like the odds on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to score at 2.62.
Tip: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to score @ with N/A
Buendia can stay involved in front of goal
Emiliano Buendia could have an important role for Aston Villa after their summer changes. Rogers and Tielemans have departed, Manzambi is injured and McGinn is fighting to be fit, making a start for the Argentinian forward a realistic possibility.
Buendia was an important Europa League performer last season, scoring four goals and providing six assists. He also registered 20 shots on target across 15 matches in the competition.
Only Watkins with 28 and Rogers with 25 produced more shots on target for Villa in that Europa League campaign. Buendia then made another direct contribution in the 3-0 final win over Freiburg, scoring once, assisting once and recording two shots on target.
Cards look less appealing despite Somali referee Omar Artan being happy to show cautions. Artan was refused entry to the USA in June before the World Cup, while both PSG and Villa have good disciplinary records. Buendia’s own Europa League numbers are more persuasive, and a bet on Emiliano Buendia to have a shot on target appeals at 2.25.
