The three newly promoted sides from the Championship lead the market in the race no club wants to win. Sunderland, who clawed their way back to the Premier League via the play-offs, find themselves immediately cast as favourites for the drop at 1.22.

Burnley follow at 1.35, while Championship title-winners Leeds United are rated 1.73. It’s a damning trend: all three promoted sides have suffered immediate relegation in each of the past two campaigns.

Among the more established Premier League names, it’s Wolverhampton Wanderers who draw the shortest odds at 4.50, ahead of Brentford at 5.50 and Fulham at 7.00.

Below is the current top 10 in the relegation betting — complete with their implied probabilities.

Survival Fight 2025-26: Can the Newcomers Beat the Drop?

Sunderland ()

">

A dramatic late surge against Sheffield United in the play-off final sealed Sunderland’s first top-flight appearance since 2016-17. But the celebrations may prove short-lived. The Black Cats stumbled across the line last season and already face a steep uphill battle — reflected in their status as relegation favourites.

Their summer began with a major departure: teenage star Jobe Bellingham was sold to Borussia Dortmund for £32 million. That business was done in time for the Club World Cup, giving Sunderland the breathing room to reinvest. But whether they can build a squad ready for the fight remains to be seen.

Burnley ()

">

Burnley’s last taste of Premier League football in 2023-24 ended with heartbreak — and hefty spending. Vincent Kompany’s expansive football met a brutal reality at the highest level.

Now under Scott Parker, Burnley return with a more pragmatic identity. They boasted the best defensive record in the Championship last season — a foundation that gives them hope. But can that steel withstand the relentless pressure of Premier League forwards? The jury is out.

Leeds United ()

">

Leeds arrive with the weight of expectation. The biggest club among the promoted trio, they’re seen as the most likely survivors — and perhaps more. The path blazed by Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest shows what’s possible for newly returned sides with ambition and resource.

Armed with a reported £100 million transfer budget, the Whites are already close to landing Lecce striker Nikola Krstovic. But pressure will be instant. Manager Daniel Farke knows the cost of a slow start — having been relegated from the Premier League twice with Norwich. He can’t afford history to repeat.

Established, But Not Safe: The Outsiders Under Threat

Last season flipped the script. Tottenham, who scraped 17th, and Manchester United, just two places above, linger at distant odds of 41.00 and 21.00 respectively. Neither is expected to flirt with disaster again. So where is the value?

Wolverhampton Wanderers seemed destined for trouble until Vitor Pereira arrived and sparked a revival. They climbed to 16th, a comfortable 17 points clear of the drop. Yet bookies still see them as vulnerable. Key players are gone: top scorer Matheus Cunha has been sold, and Rayan Aït-Nouri has joined Manchester City. While young Fer Lopez has arrived from Celta Vigo, much depends on how Wolves spend the rest of their windfall.

Brentford, despite last season’s stability, find themselves in the danger zone again. The concern? Their exodus may just be beginning. Star men Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa are linked with summer exits. More significantly, Thomas Frank has left for Tottenham, with set-piece coach Keith Andrews poised to step in. Brentford’s talent-recycling model has worked before — but replacing a visionary manager is a different challenge altogether.

Fulham, by contrast, may have found some calm. Marco Silva had been linked with the Spurs job before Frank’s appointment — and now looks set to stay at Craven Cottage. Most of the core squad should remain intact, though left-back Antonee Robinson is being pursued by wealthier rivals. Still, the Cottagers appear better equipped than most to navigate the storm.
